All schools must provide swimming instruction either in KS1 or KS2. In Red Hall, all classes from Year 3 to Year 6, have access to swimming lessons throughout the year at the Educational Village. Year 5 and Year 6 attend weekly swimming lessons for up to 3 half-terms to ensure they are competent swimming before leaving us for secondary school.
These are the National Curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety:
– swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
– use a range of strokes effectively
– perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
